Sacred Heart Cathedral , Algiers / "Cathédrale Sacré Cœur d'Alger" كنيسة "القلب المقدس" بالجزائر

عرفت الجزائر تنوعا ثقافيا ودينيا بحكم عوامل تاريخية وتوافد حضارات وديانات مختلفة عليها عبر التاريخ، الأمر الذي أوجد فسيفساء في دور العبادة، من بينها كنيسة "القلب المقدس" بالجزائر العاصمة.

تتميّز هذه الكاثدرالية بنمطها المعماري المميز الذي استوحاه 3 مصممين من إنجيل يوحنا. اكتمل بناؤها عام 1944، وتقع في شارع ديدوش موراد بالجزائر العاصمة، حيث تم تصنيفها كاتدرائية رومانية كاثوليكية في عام 1963. أكتمل بناء الكاتدرائية في عام 1956، لتصبح الكاتدرائيَّة الحاضنة لأبرشية الجزائر بعد تحول كاتدرائية القديس فيليب إلى جامع كتشاوة.

استوحى مصممي الكاتدرائية "بول هيربي" و "جان لو كوتور" بالتعاون مع المهندس “رينيه سارغر” ، من الإنجيل وفقا لقول جون: "الله نصب خيمته بيننا". فكانت النتيجة بناء قبة نحيلة ترتفع 35 متراً فوق صحن الكنيسة وتستقر على ثمانية أعمدة مرفوعة فوق أربعة أعمدة اخرى. في الداخل كان التأثير مدهشا لأن الخرسانة هي المادة المهيمنة ولكن الخطوط المتعارضة تمكنت من كسر الرتابة ويبدو أن القبة معلقة بالفعل. يبلغ طول صحن الكنيسة 52 مترًا وعرضه 35 مترًا.


Algeria has known cultural and religious diversity through historical factors and the influx of civilizations and religions throughout history, creating a mosaic of places of worship, including many churches such as the cathedral of the “Sacred Heart” in Algiers capital.

This cathedral is characterized by its distinctive architectural style inspired by three designers of the Gospel of John. It was completed in 1944 and is located on the “Dedouche Mourad” Street in Algiers, where it was classified as a Roman Catholic cathedral 1963. It was completed in 1956 and became the cradle of the Diocese of Algeria after St. Philip's Cathedral was transformed into the “Kachawa” Mosque.

The designers of the cathedral, “Paul Herbé” and “Jean Le Couteur”, in collaboration with the engineer “Rene Sarger” were all inspired by the Gospel according to John: "God pitched his tent among us". The inspiration was realized by building a slender dome rising 35 meters above the floor of the nave and resting on eight pillars raised above four columns with an astonishing curve evoking enormous mushrooms subtended by piles. Inside, the effect is striking because the concrete is the dominant material but the game of opposing lines manages to break the monotony and the dome seems really suspended. The nave is 52 meters long and 35 meters wide.
